Hello guys, previously I have taken you to get to know West Java and its beautiful tourist attractions such as Mount Tangkuban Perahu, White Crater, Bandung city and learning angklung.
Then our adventure continues to Central Java, there you see the city of Semarang, Gedong Songo, then enjoy the tropical paradise in karimunjawa and stop by the city of Jepara.

Because this area is so special that it has a special designation, namely the special region of Yogyakarta.
Indonesians abbreviate it to DIY province.
That’s right, although Yogyakarta is not as large as Central Java and is actually still included in the Central Java region, it is a separate province.

Mataram Kingdom
Yogyakarta’s history can be traced back to the ancient Mataram Kingdom,
which was a powerful Hindu-Buddhist kingdom that ruled over central Java in the 8th to 10th centuries.

Decline and Shift of Power
The Mataram Sultanate declined in the 10th century due to internal conflicts and external invasions.

Founding of Yogyakarta
In 1755, the Yogyakarta Sultanate was officially established by Sultan Hamengkubuwono I.

with the help of the powerful Mataram nobleman, Prince Mangkubumi, who later became Sultan Hamengkubuwono I’s loyal ally.
Dutch Colonial Era
During the Dutch colonial rule, the Yogyakarta Sultanate maintained a level of autonomy as a vassal state under the Dutch East India Company (VOC).
The sultans were allowed to rule their territory, but they were subject to Dutch influence and control.
Java War
In the early 19th century, a conflict known as the Java War (1825-1830) erupted between the Yogyakarta Sultanate and the Dutch.
The sultanate, led by Sultan Hamengkubuwono II, resisted Dutch attempts to exert more control over their lands.
However, the war ended in the defeat of the sultanate,
and a new treaty was signed with the Dutch, further solidifying their control over Java.
Independence Movement
