History of the Baduy People

The history of the Baduy people cannot be separated from the existence of the Pajajaran Kingdom.

In the 11th and 12th centuries, the Kingdom of Pajajaran controlled Banten, Bogor, Priangan, and Cirebon.

At that time, the ruler who ruled was King Prabu Bramaiya Maisatandraman or Prabu Siliwangi.

Then, in the 15th century, Islam was brought by merchants from Gujarat and Sunan Gunung Jati, one of the Wali Songo from Cirebon.

The Kingdom of Pajajaran also declined because many of its people later embraced Islam.

Finally, the king and their courtiers left the kingdom and entered the wilderness to the south, following the headwaters of the river.

They left their origins, as spoken in the rhymes of the Baduy ethnic group.

Their descendants to this day are residents of Kampung Cibeo,

The Baduy Dalam people are famous for their white Sangsang clothes, white hand-stitched, white headbands, and dark blue sarongs woven with their own hands.

The Baduy Dalam is a community that still adheres to the principles of customary law and is strong in carrying out its local wisdom.
