The history of Mount Tangkuban Perahu is associated with folklore that developed in West Java in ancient times

This story tells about the legend of Sangkuriang, who is said to have fallen in love with his mother, Dayang Sumbi.

To thwart her son’s intention to marry her, Dayang Sumbi proposed that Sangkuriang build a lake and a boat overnight.

When his attempt failed, Sangkuriang got angry and kicked the boat so that it landed upside down. This boat then formed Mount Tangkuban Parahu.
