Paisu Pok the Beautiful Crystal Glass-Clear Lake

previously I have written about Bunaken, a beautiful marine park in North Sulawesi, now we are heading to Central Sulawesi.

Central Sulawesi Province has a hidden natural attraction located in the Banggai Islands Regency.

The name of this natural attraction is Lake Paisupok also known as Lake Paisu Pok Luk Panenteng.

Paisupok Lake is located in Lukpanenteng Village, North Bulagi District, Banggai Islands Regency.

If you travel from Salakan, it will take about 2 hours and 30 minutes to get to Lukpanenteng Village.

The Beauty of Paisu Pok Lake

Lake Paisupok is unlike any other lake because it is still very beautiful with clear water. This lake is one of the clearest lakes in Indonesia with nature that is still maintained its beauty.

The lake water is so clear that it looks like glass, allowing tourists to see the bottom of the lake.

The clear blue color of the lake water can also be seen from afar, with the black color of some aquatic plants that live at the bottom.

This black color is the reason for the name Paisupok Lake, which means black water in the local language.

The beauty of the swimming fish and tree trunks at the bottom of the lake will spoil your eyes even more.

The glass-clear Paisupok Lake is also surrounded by lush forests that make the scenery so refreshing.

What to do at Paisupok Lake

You can do several activities during their visit to Paisupok Lake or rent a boat to explore the beauty of the entire Paisupok Lake and take some photos.

you can also swim, snorkel, or dive to enjoy the freshness of the water and the beauty of the lake bed.

In addition, you can also relax by the lake while enjoying its natural beauty or explore Lukpanenteng Village

and get to know the culture of the residents namely Sea Sea people, who are indigenous people of the Banggai region.

The best time to visit Lake Paisupok is in the morning, so you can enjoy the lake all day.

However, you don’t need to worry because local residents also provide rooms and houses for tourists who want to stay overnight.

Conservation Challenges

Whilst the lake is a place of great beauty

Paisu Pok and its ecosystem are vulnerable to the impacts of tourism, which can lead to pollution, habitat destruction, and disturbance to local wildlife.

The lake’s water quality is also affected by the presence of rubbish and waste from human activities.

In addition, the surrounding forest is home to endemic species such as the Peling Crow and Tarsier, which are threatened by deforestation and habitat loss.

Integrated Ecotourism Planning

To address these challenges, integrated ecotourism planning is being implemented to balance the needs of tourism with the conservation of the lake and its ecosystem.

This approach involves zoning, building infrastructure, providing support facilities, conserving natural areas, regulating circulation, building institutions,

and promoting information to ensure the sustainability of the area.

How to get there

The first step is reaching Luwuk. Luckily, there are daily non-stop flights from Makassar (South Sulawesi) directly to Luwuk Airport (LUW).

If you’re coming from Bali, Jakarta, or other Indonesian locations, you’ll need to connect through Makassar.

Once you land in Luwuk, taxis readily await to whisk you into town.

The drive is a breeze, taking only about 20 minutes. (For reference, our airport transfer costs around 50,000 Rupiah).

Ferry to Leme Leme

From Luwuk , you can hop on a public ferry departing daily at 2:00 PM from the Luwuk Port to Leme Leme on Peleng Island.

Tickets are readily available for purchase at the port and cost approximately 55,000 Rupiah (~$3 USD) per person.

The ferry itself is a large wooden vessel accommodating 50 to 100 passengers.

Seating options include benches and bunks, though comfort might be limited.

Reaching Paisu Pok Lake

It’s important to note that the Leme Leme port on Peleng Island is still around 25 kilometers away from Paisu Pok Lake.

You have two options: renting a motorbike from a local resident or hiring a private car for the journey.

So,are you ready for adventure?
