At around 02.00 Am, we start to leave the inn by driving a car from the hotel.

Because it was still dark, the panorama on the way was not clearly visible even though the road was winding.

Around 3 am we stopped at the post before starting the journey to the top of Mount Bromo to see the sunrise

Be ready for Sunrise

Around 3.45 am we were in a place like a small hall to prepare to see the sunrise on Mount Bromo from a height.

Even though it was still dark, I could see the silhouette of the mountain with the expanse of clouds accompanied by the stars.

Just a suggestion, if you want to wait for the sun to come up here, it’s better to wear a thick jacket, headgear, gloves, long pants, and shoes, because the air is really cold.

Tourist spots around Mount Bromo

Besides seeing the sunrise, Mount Bromo has several other tourist spots that you can enjoy after seeing the beauty of the sunrise.

The following are destinations that you can visit around Mount Bromo:

1. Bromo Mountain-Pasir Berbisik ( Whispering Sand )

Whispering sand is a very wide expanse of sand.

here you can ride a horse to go around the entire area or you can also drive a Jeep.

The cost to ride a horse at that time was around IDR 75,000 but maybe now it’s more expensive.

This Whispering Sand ( Pasir Berbisik )was once used as a shooting location for the film with the same title, namely Whispering Sand, and won an award.

2. Bromo Mountain-Savana Bromo

Here, you will enjoy the beauty of the enchanting green meadows that stretch out while feeling the calm, cool, and comfortable atmosphere.

To get to the Bromo savanna, you will walk through the Sea of ​​Sand which reveals contrasting views.

The existence of the Sea of ​​Sand is what actually becomes an additional attraction for the Bromo Savanna.

Apart from being a place for sightseeing, this location is also often used by photographers as a point of taking photos for various purposes.

3. Bromo Mountain-Pura Luhur Poten

This temple is a place of worship for the Tenggerese who are Hindus.

This temple is in the middle of the sea of ​​sand, to get there you have to walk along the sea of ​​sand.

If you are in the Pasir Berbisik ( Whispering Sand )you should take a horse to reach this location to save energy.

From this temple, you can see the beauty around the mountain.

Pura Luhur Poten was built in 2000. This temple is a place of worship of Lord Brahma

4. Bromo Mountain-Bromo Crater

The specialty of Bromo Crater is that it is one of the main destinations for domestic and foreign tourists to spend their vacation period.

To go to the Bromo crater you should ride a horse so you don’t get tired before climbing the stairs.

To reach Bromo Crater, you have to climb stairs for about 15 minutes. Although relatively safe, still be careful

5. Bromo Mountain-Gunung Batok / Batok Mountain

Because it is located close to Mount Bromo, many people think that Mount Batok is Mount Bromo.

Even though these two mountains are different mountains. but they both have the same beauty.

Mount Batok does not have a crater and also no plants grow so this mountain is bare.

Unlike Mount Bromo, which provides stairs to climb the crater on Mount Batok, there are no stairs

6. Puncak Pananjakan

The peak of Penanjakan has always been a major part of the travel route for all tourists who come and visit Mount Bromo, especially to catch the sunrise from its peak.

Around the location of Puncak Penanjakan, there are various complete facilities such as a prayer room, bathroom, and toilet.

There are also several food stalls and traders selling various kinds of souvenirs in the form of scarves, gloves, and beanie hats.

7. Madakaripura waterfalls

In addition, to the tourist spots that I wrote about earlier, around Mount Bromo there is also a waterfall.

But it is located a bit far from the peak of Bromo yet still in one area.

The name of the waterfall is Madakaripura which is the highest waterfall in Java and is ranked the 2nd highest in Indonesia.

The height of this waterfall is about 200 meters and the flow of the waterfall is also very heavy and looks like beautiful water droplets.

According to the legend of the people around, Madakaripura Waterfall is the hermitage of Gadjah Mada.

The Mahapatih ( prime minister ) of the Majapahit Kingdom is said to be very powerful.

If you want to stop by this place, I suggest bringing a raincoat, or a special case to protect your smartphone or camera.

The good news is that all tourist attractions in the Mount Bromo area have been opened to the public, after being closed for some time due to the eruption of Mount Semeru.
